Pop culture is all around us. It is the way we dress, talk, play and even the way we eat. Our Pop Culture is thrown at us every time we turn on the television. It is on the net and on the radio. Now a days even on our phones.
I grew up in a totally different world it seems. I moved from Laredo, Texas to here, Hammond, Indiana and although they are both located in the United States, they are very different. Over there we dressed in short shorts and little tops on a daily basis, almost thewhole year around. We partied out side and listened mostly to spanish speaking music. Their Pop Culture is hot cars, driving on San Bern on Sunday nights. A street where we all drove up and down blasting our music and meeting new people. And FOOTBALL!!! This is what has shaped my life into what it is today. I hate going shopping because I constantly have to by long selved shirts and pants. It can be fashionable and cute but its not what I prefer. I'm into cars and loud music. Laredo is a growing city, so yeah people on that imfamous street had nice cars but the worked all week long just to show off what they had. But there were some of us that were on the poorer side so we'd borrow our mom's boyfriend's car to go 'crusin'. So I drive what ever gets be from A to B. Over there almost everyone enjoyed and appreciated a ride in a junked up car, mostly to be saved from the heat.
I listen to all kinds of music because in Laredo everyone listens to different types. Spanish is the most popular but hip-hop and rap is huge and so is country. Of course oldies too. My Pop Culture from there taught me that a song, in any kind of language, can still be a great song! I watch football every Sunday just as a chruch goer will go to chruch. I do not know any stats but I can give names of my favortite teams and players. In Laredo, everybody knew everybody and if you didn't know someone they sure knew you. So you know gossip was a big part of pop culture and it got around FAST!!!!Chosing my true friends took a long time. I surrounded myself with people I trusted my life with. If you can't trust your life with those people you can't tell them your secrets. I believe that is way I really haven't made a lot of friends here. Not that eveyone is the same.
I believe that "Pop Culture" may have ruined my generation. Young women who are easily influenced by others, see girls like Brintney Spears and Lindsay Lohan doing idoitic things and not to mention getting away with whatever they do with little or no punishment. They think its okay to do things like that. But when non-famous girls get caught they are punishmented fast and thrown back into reality. It's the same way with our young men. They think shooting each other solves problems but fail to realize how much impact they have on their families and communities once they are gone. Lets not get into the life sentences that the shooter gets. That is losing two young lives instead of one. There is a little light of good though. Look at people like Tom, from MySpace, a millionaries in their twenties for having great ideas for the internet. Or Ivanka Trump a 24-year-old vice president of her father's real-estate empire. I believe my generation has a lot to live up to. My mother's generation was about freedom and change. Sticking up for one another, being hand in hand. My generation on the other hand is about terrority and being competitive. I feel that it has to do with our Pop Culture. Turn on the television and there you will see. "Reality Shows" constantly kicking someone out. It is all or nothing for us.

pop culture has changed for every generation because things change over time, but the right not to follow has not. I agree that because of pop culture most teens think that what they see on tv is how it is in the real world, but it's not and they need to realize that they have their own mind and they should use it.
I would have to agree with you on the part that every little town and city has a different culture and with they think is in. and the fact that to many kids believe everything they see on TV like all the celebs getting away with everything. but the times are a changing and you got to look it as a good thing.
I think you brought up some crucial elements that may be changing our generation for the worse even if we don't like to hear it. While all things come with a negative, you still worked to encompass the positive aspects of our society. I admire your ability to cover such a wide range of factors on this particular topic!
I think that you have a point when you say that every town has its own version of pop culture. I also like the fact that you pointed out what goes on in young artists and actress lives and how many young people become affected by it.
